Archives For board members

Nonprofits have trouble recruiting young professionals to their boards in part because nonprofits don’t know where to find younger board members, and young people think board service isn’t accessible to them. An event coming up in early February in Lincoln, Nebraska, solves both problems.

It’s speed dating for nonprofits and potential board members. A nonprofit’s board chairperson and executive director, perhaps, sit for short periods of time with a bunch of young professionals interested in board service. They get to know each other, briefly, and if there’s mutual interest in further engagement, that can be arranged. Officially, it’s called the “Round Robin” Matching Event, put on by Lincoln’s Young Professionals Group.

You need to apply by January 15, 2011, to be selected to participate. Email Jenny Bell at JBell@ameritas.com with your organization’s name and web address, as well as a contact person’s name, title, phone number, and email address. Lincoln’s Young Professionals Group will then send you more information as they finalize the event schedule.

My thanks to marketing consultant extraordinaire Clover Frederick of the nonprofit marketing network (web, Facebook) for cluing me in to this event.
